Welcome to Third Grade! We are so excited to begin this year together. Your child will grow socially, emotionally, creatively, and academically. Get ready for a fun-filled and amazing year!

Expectations: We expect for our students to complete their homework every night, follow all school and classroom rules, read at least 20 minutes every day, portray their very best at all times, and respect all peers and adults.

Our standards-based curriculum consists of:

  • Reading-

    Our reading assessment is based on the Common Core Standards.  Our three areas of focus are:

  • Fluency
  • Vocabulary
  • Comprehension
  • Accelerated Reader (AR) and iReady are MANDATORY programs put in place by Dr. Jackson to help build our students’ reading Lexile levels.
  • iReady Reading weekly expectations are 45mins a week with an average of 80% or higher passing rate on lessons
  • Accelerated Reader (AR) expectations are to reach 100 percent of your reading goal with an 85% or higher passing rate on quizzes.
  • End of year Lexile Goal is 850L

  • Students will learn and utilize the writing process.
  • Students will be required to produce 3 types of writing:
  • Narrative Writing
  • Informational Writing
  • Opinion Writing
  • Persuasive Writing
  • Writing embedded across the curriculum (RACE Strategy: Restate question in answer, Answer, Cite your evidence, and Explain your answer)
  • Math-
  • Place Value/Rounding
  • Addition and Subtraction of Whole numbers
  • Strategies for Multiplication and Division
  • Fractions
  • Data Analysis and Geometry
  • Measurement and Algebra
  • Science-
  • Heat Energy
  • Magnets
  • Rocks, Fossils and Soils
  • Habitats of Georgia
  • Pollution
  • Integrate units in order to make real world connections.
  • Social Studies-
  • Roots of Democracy
  • American Indian Cultures
