Kay Pace Audition Requirements 


Dance:

Prepare  technical dance solo (Ballet, jazz, contemporary ONLY). Dance should be 60-90 seconds in length.  Students should provide sound on cd or USB drive (cell phones and tablets  do not work in audition room).  Students should show technique, musicality, facial expressions and memorization of choreography while dancing. Dance choreography must include a leap, pirouette, and one extension (for example a kick) 


Students will also participate in a teacher lead activity. 


Theatre:

Prepare a 60 second performance piece (may be either a poem or monologue, monologue preferred).  Monologue/Poem should be performed with only student speaking; student should perform as only one character.  Student piece should include memorization, articulation, projection, body movement, facial expressions and characterization.  All pieces must be age-appropriate, no self-written pieces are accepted.


Students will also participate in a teacher lead activity. 


Visual Arts

Portfolio (Please bring pieces/pictures to audition)

3 examples of students' best artwork. Can be 2D drawing/painting or 3D sculpture/clay. 

A picture should be taken of each 3D artwork individually. The picture should be close up, with nothing in the background. 


Still Life Drawing-  when students attend the audition they will be asked to draw a still life drawing provided by the teacher.  


Instrumental Music

Students with instrumental experience: Prepare a short piece on the instrument of their choice 


Students with no instrumental experience: Prepare and sing the first verse and chorus of one of the following songs: Straighten Up and Fly Right  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGvYh0r1i0E  or America (either America or America the Beautiful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCUUrtnpA3E


All students participate in teacher lead activities. 



Vocal Music

Once students are logged in, they are able to access iReady Reading and iReady Math.

Kay R. Pace Elementary School of the Arts - Visual and Performing Arts

This elementary comprehensive arts program provides opportunities to develop and highlight performers. Children who enjoy creative expression through 2D and 3D art, dance, instrumental, piano, vocal music, theatre, and the written word will flourish artistically and academically in our performing, visual, and communication arts programs. This program helps develop and nurture talents so students can realize their full potential and become shining stars. Self-discipline, teamwork, and personal confidence foster success in the classroom, on the stage and in life.

Program rationale is to offer students opportunities to focus on excellence in academics while discovering, exploring and refining their talents and interests in the Arts.

This rationale supports the Vision of a learning community where students achieve high academic standards, develop good citizenship qualities, and enhance their artistic expression.

The theme-based school’s Mission would be to provide a safe and supportive environment that promotes the highest quality education in an environment enriched through the Arts.

    Program Structure

  • Academics – all students will receive instruction in math, language arts, social studies and science at the appropriate grade level with emphasis on advance instruction
  • Arts – all students will receive enrichment activities in art, music- choral, music-instrumental, dance and drama

 

Admittance Criteria

Kay R. Pace Elementary School of the Arts (Magnet) 

Kindergarten through Second Grade

• Completed application • Two letters of recommendation on the official CCPS Form 

 

Third through Fifth Grade

• Completed application • Audition in chosen area of interest listed on the application • Two letters of recommendation on the official CCPS Form
